LAST STOP: a post-mortem

null

Some good news, the above screenshot managed to make it in the National Post in their exclusive on the Sheridan animation program!

Now that the post-production stage and preps leading up to Industry day is officially over with the final screening, everyone in 4th year animation can more or less rest easy for the time being. Overall I can say it’s been a really tough but rewarding 8 months. The support I got from all the old and new friends I’ve made these 4-5 years helped keep my head screwed on straight during my insane 16-20 hour day work schedule.

Making a one minute film has played havoc on my nerves since day one, I couldn’t even tell you guys just how terrified I was of animating after the story reel was completed. All the technical problems and corrupted files that accumulated in the last week of production couldn’t even compare to the initial fear of actually starting something you have to deal with for the rest of your grad year. I want to thank Anna Gopin, Ben Huen, Trevor Jiminez and Pierre-Luc Aube for all the great suggestions they had during our group mentor sessions in the first semester; in the end I managed to do most of my film verbatim.

Music-wise, this film was HARD to find songs for. Surf guitar, reggae, big band, improv jazz didn’t seem to work out as well as I thought. Moonstarr, who so happened to manage an indie label called PUBLIC TRANSIT RECORDINGS, was generous enough to let me borrow one of his old tracks for non-profit purposes. If money does start slipping in somewhere, I would definitely love to literally repay the favour, but even then I wouldn’t mind hacking off an arm and a leg for the cost of borrowing the song to begin with.

I took on the one minute challenge the school threw us and managed to get the film, minus the credits, at exactly that length just in case someone decided to cut everyone’s screening time. Truth be told, I really wanted to make my film longer and much more violent, hahahahha.

Maybe I’ll do a remake someday? Oh hell, I’d make a SEQUEL! [In story reel format.]
